Short-Term Rental Registration

Short-term rentals, defined as any dwelling unit that is rented for less than fifteen (15) days, have a longstanding presence in Kennebunk and the market continues to expand due to the increasing popularity of online rental platforms. As we experience this continued growth in short-term rentals, the Town is dedicated to upholding the safety of these units for its residents and visitors. 

To address potential safety issues, the Town's Ordinance Review Subcommittee created a Short-Term Rental Ordinance, including a registration and inspection process  

Per the Short-Term Rental Ordinance, effective January 1, 2025, any person seeking to operate a short-term rental unit in the Town of Kennebunk shall register the unit with the Town Clerk’s office. 

Short-term rental units will be inspected by Kennebunk Fire Rescue. If the short-term rental unit fails to meet these requirements, no registration shall be issued until identified issues are resolved to the satisfaction of the Fire Chief or designee. There is a $250 registration fee for new applications and a $150.00 fee for renewals. Checks should be made payable to the Town of Kennebunk.
