
Det. Borst began his law enforcement career in 1991 as a Summer Reserve Officer before graduating from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology. In 1995, Det. Borst began working with the Wells Police Department as a Patrol Officer. After serving four years as a Detective, was promoted to Corporal and has twice served as Acting Sergeant in the Patrol Division. He was also department F.T.O., mentoring and training new employees. He is a certified Instructor with the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and often conducts presentations upon request throughout the community. In 2006, Det. Borst began working with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, as a narcotics investigator. His duties included undercover and covert narcotics investigations in a regional task force setting. In 2009, he was promoted to Supervisory Special Agent tasked with coordinating all investigations conducted by the task force group. He came to Kennebunk PD in 2013 serving as a Patrol Officer and Resident Drug Agent before being promoted to the rank of Detective. He has received specialized training in numerous subject areas including Use of Force Instructor, First Line Supervision, Total Quality Policing, ME Drug Enforcement Agency (MDEA)-Basic Narcotics Investigator Course, Undercover Operations, Narcotics Unit Commander’s Course, Interview & Interrogation and Advanced Criminal Investigations. Det. Borst is also a graduate of the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Institute.
