The "Slow Down Kennebunk" campaign which was launched in Spring of 2022 as a community effort to decrease speeding on our roadways ended in September of 2022. The Town of Kennebunk and the Kennebunk Police Department advocated for voluntary compliance by all drivers to SLOW DOWN and obey the posted speed limit. A series of videos were produced and yard signs were distributed to help spread the message.
Since the COVID pandemic there has been an uptick in speeding nationally. Speeding endangers everyone on the road. According the NHTSA, In 2019, speeding killed 9,478 people. Speed limits are put in place to protect all road users. When you speed, you put everyone on our roadways at risk including pedestrians, cyclists, children and other drivers. This campaign helped create awareness of the dangers of speeding.
We encourage you to SLOW DOWN while driving. By slowing down, you help create a traffic calming effect, which will slow down drivers behind you. Encourage your families and friends to SLOW DOWN to keep our community safe!
Together, we can make our roadways safer for all users!
