Map

The Bicentennial Map sub-committee has been tasked with creating a fold out map to commemorate the Kennebunk Bicentennial. Together with the Town Historian we have determined 20 points of interest that reflect the history of Kennebunk that will be included on the map.

There will be a brief description of each location and "then and now" images. Our map will be linked with the Brick Store Museum’s History Hopper app to add another layer of information and detail.

We are planning a commemorative day in June 2020 that will include a walking tour and a "hop-on-hop-off" trolley tour that will cover the some of the places of interest in downtown Kennebunk. Costumed interpreters will be at each site to give a brief "history with a twist" description of why each site is important and interesting. In addition, there will be a narrated trolley tour that will include West Kennebunk, Kennebunk and the beach.

Another concept that we are exploring is having the costumed interpreters gather together in the afternoon of the commemorative event at a designated site to create a "tableau" and give a presentation on "The History of Kennebunk in 20 Minutes" with refreshments to follow.

We would love to have you join us on this adventure, and don’t know where our map will lead us!

We are looking for:
1. Costumed interpreters (would love some younger people to participate)
2. Involvement in the production of the "The History of Kennebunk in 20 Minutes"
3. Help creating costumes (art and/or theater department) for interpreters

If you would like to be a part of this creative and collaborative effort, please call the Town Clerk’s office at (207) 604-1326 or email us and include "Bicentennial Map" in the subject line.
