Quilters Sought for Bicentennial Quilt
The Town of Kennebunk will be celebrating its 200th anniversary in 2020. To commemorate this event, the Bicentennial Quilt sub-committee will be creating a quilt with squares that represent the people, places and things important to the town.
We will be creating a “potholder” quilt that will be donated to the Brick Store Museum as part of the Bicentennial Celebration in 2020. Each square will depict something that relates to Kennebunk: buildings, people, industry, nature, quilt patterns, etc. An application must be completed that includes a sketch of the square concept. We can’t guarantee that every proposal will be selected. The application kits will be available at five locations: Town Hall, Brick Store Museum, Kennebunk Free Library, Camp Wool and Sanford Sewing Machines as well as on our website (see below).
A list of quilt square suggestions is included with the application kit (PDF), but if you have an additional idea we would love to hear from you! Each quilter selected will receive a kit containing the batting and the backing/binding fabric that has been especially created for us from a fabric pattern found in a quilt from the Brick Store Museum’s collection. All other fabrics, threads will be the quilter’s responsibility. We are planning a kick off “fabric swap” for the quilters that have been selected as a way to meet each other and share fabrics. A quilting workshop/lecture with Pam Weeks on the construction of the potholder quilt will be scheduled in 2020.
The committee is looking for:
1. Quilters
2. Volunteers for the workshops (should have an interest in quilting and fabrics)
If interested, please download the Application Kit (PDF).
